Urban designers should be dealing with various spatio-cultural behaviors and be sensitiveto the trends. They must be eager to find the way to accommodate various spatio-culturalbehaviors into the cities effectively and harmonically. So called ‘Inner-City New Leports(leisure-sports)’, having occurred in the central areas of the city, is an unique activities withrespect to the use of urban space and its’ behavioral features, but it has not been yetunderstood appropriately as to its’ spatial·behavioral characteristics and the influence onurban space. In this study, we investigated the ‘Spots’ particularly in view of their location inthe city and the practical use and the spatial structure of them. We also investigated theopinions of New Leports players to find their aims and views about their activities. In spite ofsome problems and limits originating from its’ informality and underground feature, NewLeports has some important positive effects in that it can enrich the cityscape, nourish streetculture and give new vitality to some lost urban spaces. As a result of these investigations, some suggestions were sought and proposed as a way to accommodate the positiveness andmerits of this new urban behavior and to make the city culturally a more viable place. |
