Abstract |
This research begins from the understanding of current situation of urban housing, which is based on high-density housing redevelopments in large-scale complexes. This paper aims to investigate the feasibility of small-block subdivision development as an alternative development to large estates. Through the analysis of a large-scale development with proposed small-block development on an existing site in Seoul, the possibility of new housing development technique adopting small blocks and internal streets is verified in terms of development density, efficiency of land use, and provision of community streets in the urban environment. In addition, three typical block housing models are proposed meeting the optimum development criteria, especially the combination of housing blocks, community street in between the blocks, disposition of residential buildings and open space, accessibility, and orientation to sunlight. |
