Abstract |
In an urban space, the neighborhood can be defined as a spatial scope that accommodates everyday life including cultural and social activities events, and thus establishing a reasonable Neighborhood boundary becomes the first step for a good residential planning. Recently, the transition of neighborhood planning concept is required resulting from improvement of life quality. This study proposes new planning technique for neighborhood for the future direction by analyzing the existing concepts and applied cases in Korean residential district. For the analysis, we chose the residential districts that show the neighborhood planning concepts and the structure of spaces, and analyzed how facilities such as schools, parks, and commercial facilities are placed and how pedestrian & green pedestrian passages and public transportation systems are connected. In particular, we identify the problems and seek the direction of neighborhood planning by investigating the residents' actual usage. The results show that facilities are placed in the center of neighborhood in the early stage of neighborhood planning, but recently they are sited along the street that is the center of neighborhood. Also, the neighborhood in urban residential district is connected via pedestrian circulation systems, and recently public transportation systems become a center of neighborhood. The findings indicate the changes from a neighborhood that is closed and lacks urbanism to a neighborhood that extends by connecting surrounding areas and recently reflects the changing public transportation systems. Therefore, the direction of the proposed neighborhood planning concepts is open and pedestrian-oriented in conjunction with public spaces such as public transportation stops and various planning techniques to connect and utilize the street spaces are needed. |
