The city of Jinhae was planned in the period under the rule of Japanese Imperialism. After independence from Japan, there were not big changes in the overall shape and function from the colonized period. In 1970s, new district incorporated into Jinhae because of the demands for development after the 1970s. The extension of the city district has proceeded from the old part of city to the new area along the coast. Moreover, the recent development has been concentrating on the new city, so Jinhae became as an international logistic and global tourist city. However, these new goals seem to have been decided without understanding the city’s history and spatial system. Thus, it is essential that the new directions of city development ought to be planned taking into consideration about the division into two areas, which are the new and the historical district.
