Abstract |
The city structure is changing through the cycle of evolution, growth, decline and vanishment as time goes by in history. The purpose of this study is to review the intrinsic character of the city, to offer the needs of urban regeneration catalyst and its meanings of planning and to suggest the roles of urban waterfront as a catalyst for urban regeneration. The achivements of this study are as follows; firstly, the improvement of downtown environment after Cheonggyecheon restoration work initiates creating the sustainable environment and contributes to the national policy of green growth. Secondly, it plays a role of catalyst for the change of urban structure of CBD in Seoul. Thirdly, it tries to promote urban economy through amplifying urban infrastructure for competitive city. Fourthly, it shows a new alternative model of urban development. Although Cheonggyecheon restoration work has made these achievements through the comprehensive approach, we need to wait the practical effects with long time span, considering the variables of time which the character of urban spatial structure and development have. |
