| Abstract |
This study examines the urbanization processes of modern Suncheon from the viewpoints of its development motivations. Analyzing the decision making agents and dynamics, this study illuminates the following interpretations: First, the foreign missions of Suncheonbranch were uniquely formed outside the area of existing Eup-sung (town fortress) and next to Korean village in 1910~1919. Second, the educational and commercial facilities were established inside Eup-sung because of the growing population due to the settlement of educational and medical ones in 1920~1930. Third, in 1931~1945, Suncheon was changed into a multi-core city due to the establishment of railroad office. Fourth, after the liberation from the Japanese ruling, Suncheon constructed new towns, recovering the flood disasters in 1945~1966. |
