Abstract |
This study draws implications for policy improvements regarding new urban regeneration in local regions. It is based on the diagnosis of urban problems and trends of slow population growth along with the change of urban paradigm in 21st century. Since the mid 1980s, especially in suburban areas as well as metropolitan areas, various urban problems have came out, such as decrease in residents of CBD, urban deactivation, drop in public office functions, deterioration of infrastructures, and economic stagnation, which have made the whole city unattractive. These resulted in a severe downturn. This study, categorized suburban regions around the metropolitan area into 4 groups, based on characteristics such as nodes, center, points and residential functions to provide alternatives to urban regeneration. The results show that expertises and policy makers should consider comprehensively to reorganize the urban spatial structures in the aspects of economics, societies, cultures, and environment under the support of the legislative system for sustainable urban regeneration. |
