| Abstract |
One of major purposes of the Green Parking project that has been doing since 2004 in Seoul Metropolitan city is to remove walls of detached houses for parking spaces and improving environment of side streets. It makes intermediate spaces, which could be a probability for a recovery of sense of community, between private space and a side street. This article, therefore, tried to analyze the changed social activities which caused by Green Parking project. First, the results indicate not only the increasing frequency of social activities, but also the increasing number of participants who take part in social activities than before the project. Second, the age structure of the participants is diversified, and types of social activities that are generated in Green Parking area are increased. Consequently, this study concludes that new spaces created by the project have profound effects upon people’s behavior on side streets. Therefore, this study can give some suggestions on what kind of milieu is more appropriate environment for side street communities. |
