Abstract |
There are some limitations to apply CPTED because the relationship between the characteristics of the Korean residential environments and crimes has not been identified yet. In order to solve such problems, this study seeks to analyze how the landuse patterns in Bundang New Town, are associated with the crime rate. As a result of the analysis, this study has found the followings. Firstly, in an apartment complex, a crime rate is higher when the land use of the complex is connected to the abutting blocks, whereas it is lower when a block has an edge in terms of land use. Secondly, in residential blocks consisting of single-family housings and multi-family housings, the rate is higher in not only a block that commercial use is active and when escaping into other blocks is easy but also a residential block consisting of luxurious single-family housings, while it is lower in blocks that are separated from other blocks by, for example, streams, or blocks that have a disconnected land use with nearby blocks. Lastly, in commercial and business districts, the rate is higher in an area adjacent to a transit station that have many passing populations or blocks adjacent to commercial or retail uses. |
