| Abstract |
The global trends of historic conservation has been changed from preserving individual monuments to conserving historic and cultural environments as a whole. However, in Korea, the legal system to conserve historic environments is unfortunately very weak and insufficient. This study aims to suggest a solution for improving our legal system to introduce a new area-based historic conservation system. The study analyzed current laws and ordinances and also suggested improvement guidelines. These guidelines are to: 1. (As an emergency measure) register the areas where lots of Hanoks traditional Korean housing and modern buildings are still remained as a registered cultural heritage based on the present Cultural Heritage Protection Act. 2. Revise Cultural Heritage Protection Act and introduce the new provision and guidelines for registering area-based registered cultural heritages. 3. Legislate a new law for conserving and reutilizing historic and cultural environments. |
