| Abstract |
In response to a new direction for coastal city tourism in coastal cities, this paper suggests a new paradigm in the coastal development by the analysis of Barcelona's Intelligent Coast(IC) Project. The IC Project has been developing the qualitative coastal tourism-systems. The goals of the IC Project are to introduce and offer the methodology to analyze the city and reinterpret the existing city as a viable place for a new knowledge-based tourism. As such, it presents a consilient approach to coastal city planning. The contents are as follows. First, the processes of mapping analysis for finding new space are discussed. Second, the processes of the matrix analysis, which forms a new program, are addressed. Third, the results of the first and second are combined intocone entity, and applied to the site specifics, establishing the remodeling plan for developing a city as a place of knowledge-based coastal tourism. The design process can be used to prevent problems and minimize conflicts of interest among existing urban fabrics when remodeling the cities. |
