Abstract This paper aims to find answers to why Yeouido was isolated so long time in Seoul from 1900 to 1968. This study discovered that isolation of Yeouido was started with construction of Gyeongin Railway from Seoul to Incheon in 1900. Current Gyeongin Railway route via Yongsan was selected to save construction cost instead of Seodaemun station to Chemulpo station route through Mapo & Yeouido. That was the first isolation of Yeouido in the process of urbanization of Seoul. Yeouido’s isolation was kept during the Japanese ruling era. In 1968, Yeouido development was started based on‘ The Development of Yeouido and the Coastal Development of Han River’. Due to Yeouido development, Seoul was changed from Singlecenter City to Multi-center City. And Yeouido development has a meaning of completion by Industrial Belt from Incheon to Seoul which was lead the Korean economy in 1970s.
