Abstract |
Recently, interests on rehabilitation of old downtown has grown. However, many old downtown regeneration projects could not find better solutions for preserving identity and history in their context because of the commercial projects focused on economic benefits and housing supply. This paper aims to explore the necessity of pursuing new urban regeneration of Incheon's historical area and suggest new placemaking strategies for ongoing redevelopment practices. This paper examines new placemaking strategies toward sustainable urban regeneration by conducting theoretical document analysis. It also attempts to find key implication problems by analyzing present condition and doing a questionnaire survey. Finally, this paper pursue to suggets new placemaking strategies towards sustainable urban regeneration. The results indicate that many projects and plans achieved significant progress in terms of‘ preserving historical and cultural place for people’,‘ increasing the level of pedestrian movement connection’ and‘ enriching the features of existing buildings’. However, there was no progress in the apects of‘ pursuing long-term financial benefits’,‘ designing for change’ and ‘encouraging citizen participation’. Thus this research argue that administrative supports and consistent interests should be followed for future sustainable urban regeneration. |
