Abstract |
A ubiquitous city uses cutting-edge technology to provide U-service through urban infrastructure in order to increase the competitiveness and the quality of life in a city. ‘Ubiquitous City(U-city) infrastructure’ is a necessary factor to provide U-service which includes the following requirements. First, the infrastructure should be the factor that eases the installment and control of ICT equipments. Second, it has the capabilities to transmit information via wire and wireless information communications networks. Third, it could collect a variety of different urban information concerning the U-city such as USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network), CCTV, and others. Fourth, it could control and provide all kinds of city-related information. This paper conducts a study on the application of IP Intelight(IPI)as the U-City infrastructure, a combination of traditional streetlights with advanced ICT technology. This paper found the following four distinctive characteristics; first, the streetlights are supplied with power and installed on the ground which makes IT equipment installment an easy process. Second, streetlights are found all across the city in public locations including the roads with wireless AP functions which not only enable Hotspots but also wired and wireless networks. Third, nationwide communications network and aligned streetlight installment create an USN environment. Streetlights also allow different type of urban information to be collected, via CCTV and sensors which is installed for safety and security purposes. Fourth, streetlights are controlled by the U-city Management Center and provide various information. This study proves that the IPI, the advanced streetlight system, satisfies all conditions to be utilized in the U-city infrastructure. |
