Abstract |
This research is derived from the awareness of the issues that have been belittled from the value of life in local residents and communities residing in hillside residential areas. The renewal method of the urban improvements in mountain and hillside residential areas in Korea tends to be emphasized more on development in an efficient way. The survey was sent out to five different city officials’ in charge of hillside areas in Japan. In addition, a few interviews coupled with site visits helped to understand suggested solutions to some of the problems presently facing hillside areas. As a result, the present questions for these hillside cities include: limited access to the hillside, the deterioration of all the spontaneously occurring low-rise housing, the increase in unoccupied housing due to the spill of the urban population out and elderly people growth etc. To solve these problems, the main findings are: 1) introduction of the elevator in area with steep slopes; 2) the intensive response to the various regional problems with the adoption of various housing-typology; and 3) improvement of residential environment in hillside areas with taking advantage of the existing urban redevelopment and management system. |
