Abstract |
The object of this research is to study and develop the participatory planning process and techniques for an urbanized fishing village, Cheongsapo, which is threatened to lost its vernacular characteristics in the course of urbanization process. While many urbanized fishing villages have adjusted themselves to the tourism and sightseeing demands, Cheongsapo village has initiated a series of programs for balancing the local living environment and the new urban functions including the tourism. The results are as followings. The first, needs and ideas of the residents should be respected, but the proper guidance from the experts is required. The seconds, symbolic structures visualizing the authenticity of urbanized fishing villages is needed to fortifying their unique character of fishing villages and reinforce the tourism activities. The last, long-term participation and agreement between residents is important to define their local assets and identity and secure its long-term implementation. |
