Abstract The goal of the study is to examine planning elements of exterior spaces in a mixed-use complex. For this purpose, the study first examines the mixed-use complex by utilizing research derived from the exterior spaces, and draws planning elements of exterior spaces in the mixed-use complex through an interview with planning consultants and architects. The results are summarized as follows. The project is divided into four categories: building arrangement, space layout, facility and maintenance planning. First, the study focuses on building arrangement planning when taking into account the location of the site, the traffic line (horizontal and vertical), the adjacent roads of neighboring buildings, and the hierarchy of spaces. Second, the study develops space layout, examining the difference between buildings’ bottom altitudes and the uniformity between interior design and exterior design. Third, it looks at facility planning that takes local, natural environmental elements into account for features such as roof top tree-planting, sculptures that harmonize with the surroundings and the frequency of use of a space. Finally, the study focuses on the requirement process of maintenance systems and demonstrates how to select a company to take care of maintenance.
