Abstract |
This paper aims to propose the use of the Social Sensor Network (SSN) to facilitate the cultivation of novel design ideas during the early design process of urban facilities. The basic assumption is that, by introducing the social sensor, the output of the design project could better reflect design ideas that could not be easily captured through the conventional design collaboration or typical sensor data. This paper, at first, investigates recent advances in the SSN research to identify the basic concepts, and practical applications of the SSN into the design process of urban facilities. An experimental design project was conducted to formulate the meaning of social sensor compared with existing design methods. A prototype of social sensor tool was proposed and a theoretical framework was proposed for the application of SSN in urban design. The research concludes that the proposed design process integrating social sensors will be of significant help in implementing smart green city when applied in massive scale with dedicated software tools and devices in the future. |
