This study aims to examine development process and identify liability factors in Garosoo-gil in Seoul. Findings are as follows. First, abundant hinterlands at the beginning and cheaper land price contribute to locate Ye-Gallery and allied shops. The difference compared to supported gallery location theory, is that those still run their business and represent as cultural brands in Garosoo-gil. Second, the right of choice is selected as the most essential factor for maintaining Garosoll-gil’ livability. However, respondents are not considered that galleries and cultural facilities construed 1990s and entitled to assign cultural brand to Garosoo-gil are less important. Third, software such as the right of choice and cultural atmosphere are evaluated by respondents to be more important than hardware such as physical characteristics including safety, convenience, amenity, and affordable goods. This paper concludes that both software and hardware are essential components from the planning perspective as they contribute to make in Garosoo-gil livable. |
