Abstract This study aims to discover the relationship between the characteristics of physical environment and the status of physical and mental health of the elderly in neighborhood. 500 of the elderly who live in study site are surveyed along with collecting physical features of neighborhood where the respondents live. SEM is adopted to find out the relationship between the physical environments’ features and the social activity and the status of physical and mental health of the respondents. The result reveals that physical environment has encouraged the physical activity of the elderly and, consecutively, has affected the status of their physical and mental health. The other important findings are as follows. First, the elderly who live in pedestrian friendly environments tend to more participate in activity such as senior club or welfare center and Yungo group such as reunion or local fraternity. And the elderly who live in public transit friendly environment are likely to more involve in the clan gathering. Moreover, group exercise and hobby for the elderly contribute to not only the better physical health but also the better mental health.
