Abstract |
As the size of the city and the volume of traffic increase, more residential areas are exposed to severe traffic noise. This study aims to identify practical methods in site plan for reducing traffic noise impact by adopting noise simulation program. Five apartment buildings in “D” residential complex in Guro-gu, Seoul, are selected for study site. Prior to conduct analysis, we compares the level of actual noise with those of estimated noise from the program in order to verify the reliability of program. The program reveals that it is able to measure the similar level of noise with a marginal error of 2dB. Along with this confirmation, we examines sixteen site plans with following criteria; distance between the road and buildings, building shapes, building locations, the condition of opposite sites, and so on. The finding suggests that it could reduce the impact of the traffic noise effectively to modifying the angle between the buildings and the roads and changing the shape of flat-type buildings. On the other hand, the impact of the noise reflected by the high-rise buildings across the road is not serious. Therefore, we are able to decrease traffic noise impact when we consider the direct impact rather than the indirect impact of traffic noise in site planning. |
