Abstract |
The benefits of urban parks vary considerably according to the distance between the park and the user's residence. This study aimed to identify the differences due to the distance in the economic valuation of urban parks and in the factors influencing the evaluation. The Contingent Valuation Method(CVM) was used to evaluate the economic value of a proposed park for the closed Seoul-Chuncheon railroad site in No-Won Gu, Seoul. The results are as follows: First, the average WTP (willingness to pay) decreases as the distance between the user's residence and the park increases. Second, the Using Values are more important factors to those who live in the vicinity of the park, however those who are far from the park consider the Non-using Values and the Problem Factors more importantly. Third, the frequency of using exiting urban parks is an important variable regardless of the distance, and the effects of demographic characteristics, such as gender, education and income, increase with the distance. These results verified that the economic evaluation of urban parks and the factors influencing the evaluation vary by the distance between the park and user's residence. |
