Abstract Urban regeneration with cultural and economical strategies for post-industrial redevelopment of abandoned city centers as well as brownfields is issues in terms of physical, environmental and socio-economical intervention in order to provide urban competitiveness to local community. This research consists of case-studies on urban renewal, rehabilitation, and regeneration with theoretical oxymoron between urban entrepreneurism of globalization and critical regionalism of local autonomy. Studies are based on political context in variable scales such as supra-nation, nation, province, city, neighborhood that could re-energize local provocateur to take huge risks implementing 'Big Flagship' with public funds and private initiatives in aspects of either macro urban regeneration and renewal of declined industrial zones or micro participatory renovation of lapidated communities. It analyzes the financial structure of the cases including Bilbao, Valencia and Zaragoza that addresses stakeholders? role for social and physical program in the surveyed projects and then it insinuates possibilities of landmark effects in Seoul with statistical analysis.
