| Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to suggest implications in applying urban regeneration techniques in the pursuit of sustainable urban regeneration. The study is conducted by analyzing TOD strategies for metropolitan area level and central city level in Portland, OR, USA. Applicable suggestion in urban regeneration design method are provided by analyzing characteristics of the strategies for urban regeneration based on TOD strategies for each region in Korea. Based on the analysis results, characteristics of methods for urban regeneration by Portland?s central city TOD strategy are discussed. First, even though methods for urban regeneration by TOD strategies aim at the establishment of public transportation systems which is catalytic infrastructure for inner city regeneration, they also promote a place where civilians make their own environment by constructing pedestrian oriented urban connection system. Second, the direction of regeneration need to be set at the regional level with the consideration of public transport systems and the long term perspective. Third, TOD strategies encourage sustainable urban regeneration by creating a public transportation-centered city. |
