Abstract The goal of the study is to evaluate public sculptures in Daegu City in terms of artistry, harmony, and the publicness and then to suggest schemes for improvement. To do so, this study reviewed the concept of public sculpture and its status in a literature review, and conducted a survey to ordinary people and experts. The results are summarized as follows. First, ordinary people scored at 2 sculptures and experts scored at 1 sculptures below standard point. And if there were no contest-add points, 6 sculptures in ordinary people survey and 5 sculptures in experts survey got lower than standard point. Second, the public gave lower point than the experts in evaluating the public sculpture. Third, in similar place, the public thought that harmony and publicness are more important, while experts thought artistry is more important. Finally, both the public and experts considered artistry of public sculptures is the most important. Therefore, when planning new public sculptures, it should be noted that the artistic quality of the existing public sculptures is considered very low and needs to reflect citizen's opinions.
