Abstract |
Although recently the interest in waterfront areas is increasing in and outside of the country, discussing about planning elements or spatial strategies to make the waterfront areas as urban spaces is not sufficient enough. The purpose of this study is to establish implications on the way to plan good waterfront areas through case studies that can be organized by planning scales: regional, urban, and local. For this goal, three sites, Clyde waterfront, Hafen city, and Battery park city, are selected, and analyzed in the aspects of land use, publicity/accessibility, historic/placeness, and sustainability. The critical result is that the notion of networks is the most significant in a regional waterfront plan than the others, and the network can be found in four aspects in the regional plan. Hence, it is necessary to consider plans including different planning elements or spatial strategies in various scales. The results suggest some implications to be useful to make a waterfront plan. |
