Abstract Since carbon emissions are recognized as a biggest contribution to climate changes, the needs and efforts to reduce carbon emissions are emphasized internationally. To realize a low-carbon green city, this study investigated the amount of CO₂ emissions and pollution sources on 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi-do Province, and induced effects of the whole carbon dioxide discharge through the regression analysis. Carbon generation is caused, firstly, by the pollution source like vehicles - the major source of carbon emissions; secondly, by the city living energies such as gas, electricity, etc; and lastly, by industries like waste treatment, manufacturers and so on. To reduce carbon production, city living services, such as low-carbon living services and integrated energy management systems, should be proposed and institutionalized as action plans for citizens through Information Technologies and infrastructures.
