Abstract |
This paper attempts to identify the characteristics observed in the complex systems' application into urban planning and design projects with anticipation of wider application. Two projects of yo2 group were selected for case study. Characteristics of two projects were drawn by extracting and overlapping design elements using typomorphological approach. The finding shows that the first characteristics of complex systems theory, 'self organization', is applied by allocating infrastructure facilities at the location where different land uses are overlapped. The second characteristics, 'emergence', is applied to generate new land use through conflicts among various land uses. This result indicates that in the future three dimensional land use is necessary by overlapping infrastructure with mixed-use buildings. Finally, the 'nonlinear' characteristics is applied by dividing implementation plan in several stages according to social needs. These findings indicate that the flexible planning system is necessary in accordance with the needs and level of social awareness. |
