Abstract |
Korea has developed new towns continuously since 1990, and now there are more than 10 towns in two groups-first and second generation. This study investigates on the planning tendencies of the new towns especially focused on spatial configuration of green network system, which is related to amenity and sustainability of the cities. To analyze the network configuration, this study used the Space Syntax-related indicators to measure the degree of coupling between urban structure and green network. As a result, meaningful differences were found between two generations though their overall planning goals were similar. The first generation had considerable green areas but their connectivity was low and the networks were not estimated to be well combined with urban gray structure. But the second generation's green networks had more linear elements which were contiguous to important urban functions, thus they seemed to have formed more efficient skeletal structure together with gray network. |
