Abstract |
This research explores ways to design a campus town by selecting strategic areas with an aim to revive local communities adjacent to college. The process begins from a growing trend of creating a town that encompasses both a school campus and its neighboring areas, and from the notion that the partnership between a school and a local community would lead to the improvement in regional environments. This paper adopts the following research methods; First, literature reviews and the study of relevant cases verify a need to build a campus town in local community and present proper approaches to the matter. Secondly, the paper pinpoints strategic areas to connect the Anam Campus of Korea University in Seoul and to those for neighboring regions to seek ways to vitalize the shabby regions. Third, the paper draws a small-scale regeneration plan by factoring in diverse aspects of the region and structures. The dissertation also seeks how to improve designs of streets and facade, which would enable a college to achieve desirable, long-term goal of restoring the local community. |
