Abstract |
Increasing interest in historic and cultural heritages has provided both planners and people with perception that they should be considered as bases of urban revitalization through their adaptive reuse, not ones that are simply preserved as it is. Based on changing perception of historic and cultural preservation over time, Daegu eupseong ('Town Wall') has constantly transformed its historic and cultural heritages. To meet these changing demands, the Daegu metropolitan city government has conducted several projects related to historic and cultural preservation ? such as categorizing historic and cultural assets of Daegu in 2004. As a preliminary study, this study focuses on drawing implications of historic/cultural preservation and adaptive reuse through descriptive analysis and a case study of current historic and cultural assets in Daegu eupseong. The implications of this study can be summarized as follows. First, local planning and development contexts of buildings and areas near the historic site should be considered to achieve two goals of its preservation and adaptive reuse. Second, newly proposed historic/cultural preservation projects should be linked with ones that have been conducted so far. Finally, systematic approaches should be required to preserve and maintain historic and cultural environment in the future. |
