Abstract This study aimed to develop visual exposure models for quantitative urban landscape analysis. Seeking a possibility of versatile utilization in various landscape analyses, we constructed NURBS terrain models of external and internal viewpoints and consequently, implemented an experiment in order to make a comparison between the viewsheds of 3D Visual Access & Exposure(3DVAE) and ArcView. The results indicate that 3DVAE is potentially expedient in calculating visual areas in a great accuracy because of its procedural benefits of the 3D urban figures in vector data. Besides, in order to verify credibility of analysis outcomes, the paper formulated latticed terrains of 5x5m and 10x10m then, compared the computed results of viewshed analysis. As a result of the comparison, 3DVAE generated 0.4 % p bias at external viewpoints and 0.1 % p bias at internal viewpoints; however, there were discrepancies generated by ArcView in accordance with the size of the grid in the models assessed. Likewise, the research found that 3DVAE model was highly effective for landscape analysis in external and internal viewpoints. Hence, the research concludes that the methodology utilizing 3DVAE is substantially capable of commercialization and utilization in practice due to its affluent operation within normal PCs. Therefore, this method is expected to generate more enhanced urban landscape evaluation with lavish commercial efficiency.
