Abstract This study aims to identify and analyze behavior settings in Cheonggyecheon in terms of behavior setting theory. The theory sees both environment and behavior as integrated and conducts observation as a methodology. The study draws specific physical behavior settings in Cheonggyecheon and their characteristics. Research methods include literature review, video-recording analysis, and behavior mapping. The conclusions are as follows: 1) there are 90 behavior settings containing specific size, location, and boundary; 2) behavior settings can be classified into 25 types of physical behavior settings; 3) centeredness is high under bridges and near concrete waterfronts; and 4) since occupant density is highest near the water, the spots near water can be considered physically centered space.
