Abstract |
In order to promote efficient use and management of urban parks and greenbelts, this research analyzes the prototypes and space characteristics of the urban greenbelts in the first generation Metropolitan New Towns. Buffer Greenbelts function as buffers between roads on one side and different land uses on the other side, while Scenic Greenbelts are mainly close to the diverse environment outside the city. The researchers classify Buffer Greenbelts into seven types and Scenic Greenbelts into six according to the land use of the sites facing the greenbelt. The results of this categorical analysis show that each prototype requires a different spatial composition and different facilities, depending on the various land uses, natural environments, and walking patterns of each prototype. The recent urban greenbelt system in Korea has difficulty supporting the following characteristics of greenbelts: using spaces in Buffer Greenbelts is limited, and using Scenic Greenbelts is possible but not plausible due to lack of accessibility. This research asserts that when further studies about specific conditions on both sides of a greenbelt are carried out and the urban greenbelt system is complemented in the future, the spatial efficiency of the urban greenbelts will be largely improved. |
