Abstract |
This paper aims to find out the relationship between the revitalization of commercialized streets and the changes in the restaurants of Samcheongdong-gil, one of the famous revitalized streets in Seoul. It was carried out based on the assumption that when the street gets revitalized, the biggest influence can be measured related to its restaurants. The stages of revitalization were distinguished based on the frequency of related newspaper articles published. Furthermore, a comparative analysis of revitalization stages and changes in restaurants was made. The characteristics of different sections was analyzed. The results of the analysis are as follows: Firstly, as the street gets revitalized, the number of restaurants increases. The number of cafes, especially, increased more as compared to other types of restaurants when the street came under commercialization. The restaurants could be used as a standard to analyze the revitalization of commercialized streets in the future. It can also be interpreted that when thecommercialized street is being constructed, the characteristics of the food industry influence its vitalization. Secondly, each section of the street had distinctive characteristics relative to the store being located as its major facility. Depending on this aspect, the number and the type of restaurants located varied. Therefore, it can be interpreted that it is essential to consider the characteristics of the site when coming up with management plans for the streets. |
