Abstract |
This research examines effects of the D:H ratio and the Pedestrians’ Perception of Street Environment Elements (PPSEE) on street satisfaction. Garosu street(1:1.5), Daehakro street(4:1), and Jungjadong cafe street(1:4), which are typical commercial streets with different D:H ratio in Seoul, were selected for this investigation. We surveyed people on each street to analyze the effects of the D:H ratio and the PPSEE on street satisfaction through multiple regression analysis. The results showed that the D:H ratio has no effect but street trees, stores with terraces, accessibility and utilization of stores, street markets, and comfortable walking affect street satisfaction. These results indicate that street satisfaction improves when PPSEE is improved as pedestrians walk along the street because the likes and dislikes to each element is determined through individual perception. |
