Abstract |
This study examined public preference for scenic quality of building facades from a view point of interaction between ‘art elements' and 'art principles’ and path analysis under hypothesis that scenic preference for building facades be determined by such interaction. It aims to present a framework for building facade design for commercial street. A public survey was conducted to understand mechanism of visual perception by the ‘street-goers’ (analyze landscape structure for those) who use commercial street. The results were (and it was) verified with structural equation model based on factor analysis, regression analysis and path analysis of visual preference. This study found that ‘art elements’ and ‘art principles’ are correlated to visual preference by the public. This study identified path which ‘art elements’ have an effect on landscape preference through ‘art principles’. Findings of this study suggest that an application of ‘art elements’ should be considered important as much as ‘art elements’ when designing facade. |
