Abstract |
The current applications of Big Data analysis in urban environment have concentrated in quantitative analysis; however, marketing and tourism industries have actively uses social media data to evaluate their products and services in a qualitative way. This paper aims to explore the possibility of applying various social media data-based sentiment analytics to extract user opinions and to supplement the traditional survey methods for public open space. The research investigates feasibility of using three basic sentiment analysis techniques to produce informative results for planners and designers on the current debate on the location of Gwanghwamun Square. The research findings reveal both qualitative and experiential insights that are relevant and informative for the debate. This paper recommends that further research should utilize larger social media data and suggests that collaboration with sentiment analysis experts will greatly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of future sentiment analysis for urban environment and public open space. |
