Abstract |
The study aims to explore the present conditions of social enterprises which are conducting residential environment improvement and to study how they build community capacity. The findings are as follows. First, there are 34 such organizations in Korea. This is only 0.6% of total social enterprises and 48% of them are located on Seoul and Koyung-gi Province. Second, their main business areas vary covering raging from housing construction, housing remodelling, housing welfare projects, building energy improvement, community building, urban gardening, community cafe business, etc. The requirements of government subsidy, however, make the organizations targets for the poor than the overall community members. Third, even though they are newly established, they already show positive impacts on community recognition, public participation, and community network. In this consideration, the social enterprises which are conducting residential environmental improvement projects contribute to build the regeneration capacity of the community. |
