Abstract |
This paper aims to identify a behavioral typology in public space and to analyze comparatively the behavioral characteristics between ‘Publicly-owned public open spaces’ and ‘Privately-owned public opens spaces’ designated in Special Planning Districts in Seoul. The findings reveal three behavioral types. The first type is ‘the diverse behavioral typology’, and listening music, talking, calling, standing, sitting and other activities are related to this type. The second one is ‘the resting behavioral typology’, and mostly smoking and resting oriented behaviors are fell into this category. Finally, the third type is ‘the talking behavioral typology’ which is mostly related to talking and chatting behaviors. The size of public open spaces is the most influential factor to the diverse behavioral typology. The location, visual openness of public open spaces, and commercial uses of lower level at adjacent buildings are major influential factors to the talking behavioral typology. |
