| Abstract |
‘Golmok tour and free market’ was operated with the purpose of revitalizing commercial supremacy in the declining market areas through cultural art. Through participant observation method, this study intends to discover participation subjects’ characteristics that appeared in the process of operating the free market by observing the operation process of ‘Street tour and free market’, which was executed as a city restoration project. The research object regions were Changdong and Odongdong areas where ‘Street tour and free market’ was held from March to June of 2013. This study discovered the participation subjects’ characteristics through progress research procedure of participant observation method, which is an ethnographic research. According to the result of these phased analysis procedure, the participation subjects showed activity patterns such as frequent activities, event involvement and event response in each cultural range. Regarding the situation and environment for the above, what activity characteristics the participation subjects showed was confirmed. First, in the free market environment that pursues variety and openness, all the participation subjects put priority on their own activity of purpose. Second, the participant subjects were aware that urban restoration program is necessary for revitalization of commercial supremacy. but they had different opinions in the methodical aspect of the site operation, causing various incidents and conflicts. Third, because activity environment and nature of participant subjects were basically different, they were worried about the future continuous operation of free market in their own situation. The research result is expected to be used as the basic material for establishment of project progressing strategy with characteristics of participant subjects considered in operating free market in declining market areas. |
