| Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to assess the quality of neighborhood parks in Seoul, and to analyze the distributive equity of qualitative neighborhood park services in consideration of SES factors of a certain population and region. Based on the evaluation of the physical environment and programming of 151 neighborhood parks in Seoul, the distribution of qualitative park services was analyzed in consideration of SES factors of neighborhoods. The results were as follows. Some regions and residents have been excluded from receiving qualitative park services as related policies were focused on quantitative expansion. The evaluation of the quality of 151 neighborhood parks revealed poor ratings in scenery and recreational facilities, which are essential in maintaining the physical well-being of residents. The number of programs offered by neighborhood parks averaged to less than one per park. Regions with a high proportion of elderly, children and low income groups had neighborhood parks that were largely unused due to deteriorated facilities and poor management. These results implied that Seoul Metropolitan Government should pay more attention to the equitable management of qualitative park services. |
