Abstract |
It has been confirmed that carbon dioxide is a main cause of global warming. This study suggests urban planning guidelines for the maintenance and management of sustainable urban environment, based on the analysis of the correlation between urban components and the carbon dioxide affecting climate change. First, the total carbon dioxide emissions in 2002 and in 2008 were categorized as 5 sectors. As results, carbon dioxide emission in industrial sector, commercial and public sector and transportation sector increased whereas that in household sector and agricultural sector decreased. Second, carbon dioxide emission and urban components in 2002 and in 2008 were analyzed using a regression analysis. As results, in 2008, the effect of commercial and industrial area density decreased and the effect of the number of vehicle registration per person increased, indicating carbon dioxide emissions are affected by the changes in policies and social environment. Third, the sector-specific carbon dioxide emissions were classified in 5 metropolitan areas and then analyzed. As results, in central area, commercial and public sector produced the most carbon dioxide; in western, northern, eastern and southern area, household, agriculture, industry and transportation sector produced more carbon dioxide than central area. These results evidently indicate area-specific emission characteristics and thereby the necessity of carbon emission reduction measures. |
