Abstract |
This study aims to highlight differences in the concepts of the urban agriculture and a community garden and to explore ways to vitalize community gardens within joint housing complexes based on surveys on residents. By analyzing researches, this paper found that the urban agriculture in Korea shares similarity to the community garden in terms of its features and objectives. Also this research spotted six types of outdoor spaces within multiple housing complexes for cultivation. Surveys on residents then found that the rooftop of each apartment building and the surrounding green spaces were the most favored compared to other unused spaces. Finally, surveys on residents revealed that major factors that drew residents' attention to activities in community gardens were to take a rest, relax and to enjoy as a hobby, among others. Exchanges among neighbors, however, did not affect much on their willingness to join the activities, though it is one of the key goals of the facilities. |
