Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to quantify and analyze the changes of developed areas, particularly, from the perspective of fragmentation and expansion intensity for the case of the Gangwon region. The study site is the Gangwon province and the employed methods are Urban Expansion Intensity Index(UEII) and Morphological Spatial Pattern Analysis(MSPA). The main results are as follows: (1) the national average of the UEII is 0.929 whereas the Gangwon is 0.058 which shows significant differences. With the consideration of developed size change only, there is no big difference with the national average and the Gangwon. However, considering the size of the Gangwon, development processing is very slow. Which means that developed area can be vary by the size of the region in Korea; (2) From the MSPA perspective, it is found that the fragmentation phenomena are increasing in the developed areas in Gangwon. The frequency of the core is changed from 741 for the year of 1980 to 2,141 for the year of 2000. The results of the Islet show the fragmentation phenomena in Gangwon. Further research will be asked to discuss the causality between morphological changes and socio-economic factors. |
