| Abstract |
The risk and vulnerability of urban areas are significantly increasing due to urbanization, globalization, and climate change. Moreover, the uncertainty and unpredictability of the risk are maximized as the city has grown more integrated. Given that, a comprehensive urban planning strategy is required to accommodate greater capacities of city resilience that consider all of the following: the mitigation of the risk, the improvement of the vulnerabilities, and the adaptability from the future impact. This study aims to analyze Korean metropolitan cities' urban resilience levels and identify contributing factors to sustainable urban development, strengthening the resilience capacity of the cities. The results are as follows. First, regardless of the cities' regional conditions or contexts, their comprehensive urban plans are getting emphasize the importance of urban resilience and reflect more specific details. Second, the plans are well developed in reflective and resourceful based on collecting and analyzing past data, but they are limited to include all interest groups and to integrate their sub-plans for resilience enhancement. Therefore current planning guidance system needs to be improved or upgraded to strengthen the resilience capacity of the city. |
