Abstract This study focuses on 'Paired Houses' in 'Shinwol 6 Dong urban settlement'. 'Paired Houses' is built on a 30 Pyeong (about 99㎡) housing site, and the site is divided by half, respectively 15 Pyeong (about 49.5㎡). Paired Houses make a relationship with each half part by sharing yard, roof space and walls. A unique landscape of 'Shinwol 6 Dong' is due to the fact that 'Paired Houses' have two main gates arranged side by side on one parcel and could be built in various forms. 'Shinwol 6 Dong urban settlement' was developed by a land readjustment method. This complex didn't follow the previous cases in which Seoul Metropolitan Government displaced local residents into government-owned land. The land readjustment method allows the legal ownership of the land and easier building permit, as well. Given that, various dynamic changes can take place. 'Paired Houses', each half part of which has a narrow housing site of 15 Pyeong, have been constructed in various types in order to utilize the roof space and to extend the space vertically. And in the '80s, 'Paired Houses' were used to built as a multi-family housing type, an architecture style sharing the basic structure of 'Paired Houses'. That 'Paired Houses' have individually been built in various architectural forms. The unique landscape of 'Shinwol 6 Dong' originates from the accumulation of those various architectural and building activities.
