Abstract This study examined neighborhood's environmental factors affecting two different types of walking, daily walking and excercise one, using the data obtained from '2013 Seoul Citizen Physical Activity Survey'. The results and implications of this study are as follow. First, personal characteristics, subjectively perceived environments, and objectively measured environments were found to affect daily walking and excercise one. Therefore, this study suggested that policy makers should consider not only physical infrastructures, but also residents' and pedestrians' subjective preferences on walking environment. Second, there were differences between the detailed factors affecting daily walking and those affecting exercise walking. This finding suggested that the strategies for the promotion of walking activity should be differentiated according to the purpose of the walking activity. Finally, this study found that 'Seoul Dullegil' project for the promotion of physical activity has a positive effect on the exercise purpose walking activity. This result suggested that it is necessary to expand walking trail projects such as 'Seoul Dullegil' to promote walking activities.
