Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to deduce issues and tasks of modern architectural features arising from the retrofit process of remodeling projects by analyzing the characteristics of private modern buildings in Gunsan for conservation and activation. In order to compare the changes of buildings before and after the remodeling, this study surveyed the drawings of 30 representative buildings after constructing the framework to analyze modern buildings and remodeling business. The characteristics of buildings appearing from the lot and landscape aspects were analyzed and the results area compared with eight remodeling cases to extract the aspect changes. Seven cases out of eight cases have changed from residential use to commercial one and the original landscapes were significantly damaged with the removals of walls, gates and gardens those characterize the features of detached houses. Massive lean-to roof, vertical and horizontal lines were preserved as much as possibile but it was converted into open spaces and the entrance-making method of going in from the rear of second floor was lost. The gaps between main roofs and lean-to roofs were not filled with horizontal and vertical lines but glasses and formed modern landscape, which is the result from the utility value maximization as commercial facilities rather than focusing on the restoration of traditional landscape. |
