Abstract In order to improve the connectivity of urban parks in city center which is a new development area 'Dunsan' in Daejeon Metropolitan City, this study analysed the factors that improve the connections of urban parks or open spaces. The two conceptions of connectivity for urban parks are summarized as follows: First, 'Accessibility' is analyzed by the movement patterns and behaviors of pedestrians observed in the inner and outer paths of urban parks. To improve path connectivity, it is important to make the route linked with land-use in neighboring areas and accommodate the layout of parks' facilities. Second, 'Functionality' is defined with social setting of urban parks such as purpose of visit, meanings of place, activities of users. To enhance the functional connectivity, it is important to link the demands of neighboring residents to various park's facilities and provide them with connected sense of place such as place identity. Based on the results of this study, we suggest alternative designs to make a new connection between the neighbourhood parks and green corridor with elevated walkway or walking deck. In addtion, there is a need for a physical restructuring - change of land-use, rezoning of the parks etc. - of the urban planning facility in order to strengthen the place identity of small-sized neighborhood parks which are closely-spaced in Dunsan downtown.
